Agriculture dominates: almost a third of firms in Dumfries and Galloway are farms, compared with a British 4.5%. Machinery, fuel, livestock buildings and workshops are spread across open country, often out of sight of the road. Good security here means patrols that cover distance, solar towers that need no cable, and an alarm that brings a real person. - Farming at 31.8% of regional businesses - Hospitality above the national share - Swallow Theatre in the local area - Solar camera towers for off-grid yards Get a Quote [View Whithorn on OpenStreetMap](https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=Whithorn%2C%20Wigtownshire,%20Scotland) Whithorn Business Profile ## The Dumfries and Galloway economy Some 6,390 firms are registered across Dumfries and Galloway, and farming leads by a wide margin on 2,035, ahead of builders on 765 and hospitality on 575. A 31.8% farming share is about seven times Britain's figure, and it shapes the security this area needs: long countryside routes, off-grid towers and POD alarms on detached sheds. Hospitality accounts for 9.0% of the region's businesses, beating 6.5% for Britain, so guest houses, pubs and visitor businesses may need evening cover or door staff. Officers sent to Whithorn are SIA-licensed, BS 7858 checked and on PAYE. Each visit opens with a GPS record our desk can see and closes with a digital report. 6,390 Registered businesses in Dumfries and Galloway ### Venues & Martyn's Law Whithorn's named venue is the Swallow Theatre. Should a performance there, or any gathering nearby, expect 200, organisers will have Martyn's Law duties once those are live, and we can help organisers with stewarding, entry and search planning. Security Requirements in Whithorn ## Open country and scattered sites With no pubs, construction sites or business parks recorded within 5km, Whithorn's security needs are spread thin across farms, homes run as businesses and seasonal visitor premises. Distance is the main challenge: the nearer a site is to a road, the more it is seen, and the further away, the more exposed it becomes. Key holders and alarm attendance help owners who cannot reach every call themselves, while scheduled patrols give insurers evidence that checks are actually happening. Whithorn Security FAQs ## Frequently asked questions ### Do your patrols reach farms near Whithorn? Yes. Farms make up 31.8% of businesses in the region, so countryside routes are our main service here. One route can link several holdings, with each stop timed by GPS and written up for you. ### What if my yard has no mains power? Solar CCTV towers are designed for that situation. They run independently, can be monitored remotely, and suit farm yards, machinery stores and remote compounds where cabling would be impractical. ### Do you cover holiday and hospitality businesses? We do. Hospitality represents 9.0% of the region's firms, ahead of 6.5% across Britain. Key holding, alarm attendance and evening officers are all available for guest houses and visitor premises. ### Can you provide stewards at the Swallow Theatre? Yes. Stewards from our network can cover performances at the Swallow Theatre, and when a gathering reaches 200 people we help the organiser prepare for Martyn's Law, from entry points to bag checks and briefing volunteers. ### Why does this page carry no crime figures? Police Scotland handles Scottish crime statistics, and they do not appear on Police.uk. A free audit, worth £250, studies the real exposure of your own property rather than area averages.
