Construction leads with about 3,685, agriculture follows closely at 3,525 and professional services make up around 3,100. For a security buyer, that spread matters: building contractors need sites locked down after hours, farms need patrols that reach the end of a track, and offices mostly need key holding and an alarm that someone answers. Every officer we place is SIA-licensed, BS 7858 vetted and paid through PAYE. The motor trade is another sector running above the national figure here, at 3.8% of firms compared with 3.0% nationally. Dealers and garages tend to hold stock outside overnight, which is why forecourt CCTV towers and overnight patrols are a common pairing for them. Near Shepton Mallet, industrial users such as Showerings Cider Mill sit alongside haulage operators, and both types of premises benefit from monitored cameras and a key holder the alarm company can call. 24,670 Registered businesses in Somerset 17 Pubs, bars & nightclubs within 5 km ### Named sites within 5km of Shepton Mallet - **Industrial & business parks:** Showerings Cider Mill and Wilmotts Transport Ltd - **Retail parks & shopping centres:** Townsend Shopping Park - **Hospitals:** Shepton Mallet Community Hospital ### Venues & Martyn's Law The Royal Bath and West of England Showground hosts large gatherings, so Martyn's Law duties for venues holding 200 or more people will be relevant there from 2027, while smaller spaces such as The Highwayman need door and evening cover instead. Shepton Mallet Security FAQs ## Frequently asked questions ### Can you secure an event at the Bath and West Showground? Yes. We provide event security, stewarding support and CCTV towers for shows and gatherings. Because the Royal Bath and West of England Showground can hold well over 200 people, organisers should also look at Martyn's Law preparedness, which we can include in the free on-site audit. ### Do you patrol farms around Shepton Mallet? We do. Agriculture makes up 14.3% of Somerset's businesses, far above the 4.5% British figure, and rural mobile patrols are built for that. Officers book on by GPS at each checkpoint and the visit report goes to you digitally, so you can see exactly which gates and sheds were checked. ### What does anti-social behaviour mean for my shop? Police.uk shows 121 anti-social behaviour reports within a mile over the latest year, and the local team is focused on street drinking. For a shop or pub, a visible guard at key hours, monitored CCTV and an agreed escalation route to our control room are the practical answers. ### We run a garage. What would you recommend? Motor trade firms are slightly over-represented in Somerset at 3.8% of businesses. Vehicles parked outside overnight are the usual weak point, so a forecourt CCTV tower with remote monitoring, backed by overnight mobile patrols and key holding, is a sensible starting point. ### Are your officers vetted? Every officer holds an SIA licence and is screened to BS 7858. Our whole workforce is employed through PAYE rather than subcontracted, and each shift is supervised by our in-house 24/7 control room with GPS book-on and digital reports.
