The last of these has direct consequences for businesses holding vehicles overnight. Somerset's motor trade sits above the national share, and farms are common, so locked compounds, lit yards and checked gates all help keep stock where it belongs. - Police warn of motorbike and number plate thefts - Shoplifting up 50% on the previous year - Agriculture is 14.3% of Somerset businesses - Victoria Business Park lies within 5km Get a Quote [View Chard on OpenStreetMap](https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=Chard%2C%20Somerset) Chard Business Profile ## Somerset's business base and its risks Somerset counts 24,670 registered businesses. Construction is the biggest group at 3,685, agriculture follows closely with 3,525 and professional services number 3,100. Farming's 14.3% share is more than three times the 4.5% seen across Great Britain, so rural sites with tractors, quad bikes and diesel tanks are a large part of the security picture. Rural mobile patrols and solar CCTV towers suit land without mains power or close neighbours. Motor trade runs at 3.8% of firms, above the 3.0% national level. Garages and dealers in and around Victoria Business Park keep vehicles on display and parked overnight, which is exactly the property the police warning describes. Forecourt CCTV towers and timed overnight patrols, logged through our 24/7 control room, give a record of each check. All officers are SIA-licensed, BS 7858 vetted and paid through PAYE. 24,670 Registered businesses in Somerset 10 Pubs, bars & nightclubs within 5 km ### Business locations close to Chard - **Industrial & business parks:** Victoria Business Park Sources: Go Security officer network (counts rounded to the nearest 5); ONS UK Business Counts via Nomis; place data © [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). Victoria Business Park is the one named business site within 5km, alongside 10 pubs and bars and a single mapped construction site. Police concern about speeding in the outlying villages shows how much of the area is rural, which means business premises are often spread out and quiet after hours.
